Booking & availability
How do I book driving lessons?
Choose a lesson package or an intensive course, then tell us your gearbox, postcode and preferred lesson times. Review the total, deposit and terms before continuing to Stripe. After payment, complete your contact and booking details so NextPass can arrange the next steps with you.
What happens after I book online?
Once you’ve booked, we’ll get to work arranging a suitable instructor and contact you as soon as possible to organise your first lesson. We’ll confirm your start date, lesson times and pick-up point with you, taking your postcode, gearbox choice and preferred times into account.
Where do you offer driving lessons?
NextPass arranges lessons in Manchester and the surrounding areas listed in our areas directory. Send us your postcode, preferred gearbox and lesson times so we can check local instructor availability. A town appearing on the website does not guarantee a space at a particular time.
Can my lesson start at home, work or college?
Tell us your preferred pick-up postcode and where you would like the lesson to finish. The meeting point and any different start or finish locations must be agreed with your instructor; they depend on coverage, timing and a safe place to meet.
Can I request a female driving instructor?
Yes, you can ask NextPass to check for a female instructor. Tell us your postcode, whether you want manual or automatic lessons and when you can attend. A particular instructor cannot be guaranteed, so please check your preference with us before booking.
Choosing your lessons
Should I choose manual or automatic lessons?
Manual lessons include clutch control and gear changes. Automatic lessons let you focus on road skills without those controls. Passing in an automatic normally gives you an automatic-only car licence; a manual pass allows you to drive both. Choose the option that suits your needs and confirm local availability.
Can you help if I am nervous or a complete beginner?
Yes. Tell us what worries you and any experience you have. Lessons can start with basic controls and quieter conditions, then build up in manageable steps. You can ask questions, repeat skills and discuss support you need. Read about lessons for nervous learners.
Can I join after lessons with another instructor or a break from driving?
Yes. Tell us what you have covered, how long it has been since you drove and what you would like to improve. Your instructor can assess your current driving and plan from there. Refresher lessons and test preparation may suit different stages; you do not need to choose a beginner course just because you are new to NextPass.
How long are lessons, and how many will I need?
Agree the duration and frequency of your lessons with your instructor. The right plan depends on your experience, confidence, availability and progress; buying a block does not mean every session must use the same length. There is no legal minimum number of driving lessons, and no package can promise that a set number will make you test-ready.
What do I need before my first driving lesson?
You must hold a valid provisional or full licence appropriate to the lessons and be legally entitled to drive. Be ready to show your licence and meet driving eyesight and medical requirements. Tell your instructor about any relevant health needs or adjustments before the lesson. Check the official learning-to-drive requirements if you are unsure about eligibility.
Prices & payments
How much are single lessons and block bookings?
Our online options are £35 for a single lesson, £170 for a five-lesson block and £330 for a ten-lesson block. The single-lesson price may vary by area. Choose the option that suits you on our lesson packages page, where you can see what’s included and the deposit to book.
Is my deposit part of the price, and when do I pay the balance?
Yes. The deposit counts towards the displayed total. The online deposit is £30 for a single lesson, £50 for a five- or ten-lesson block and £250 for an intensive course. For a deposit booking, the remaining balance is paid to your instructor at the first lesson. Where full online payment is offered for an intensive course, it covers the included tuition hours.
How do online payments and Klarna work?
Online payment is handled by Stripe. The payment methods actually available for your purchase are shown at checkout. Klarna may be offered for eligible intensive-course payments, subject to eligibility, status and approval; it is not guaranteed for every booking. Review its payment schedule and terms before choosing it. NextPass does not store your card details.
What is the difference between a block booking and an intensive course?
A lesson block groups lessons together for regular tuition at an agreed pace. An intensive course provides a stated number of tuition hours on a more concentrated schedule. Choose around your current standard and time to practise. An intensive course does not guarantee a quick pass or a particular test date.
Intensive courses & tests
How do I choose an intensive course, and how quickly can I finish?
Courses range from 5 to 45 tuition hours. Tell us about previous lessons, your current confidence, available days and any test you have booked. We can discuss a sensible starting package, but the schedule must be agreed with your instructor. Completion depends on availability and progress; a package is not a guarantee of being test-ready by a particular date.
Does a package include my driving test or use of the car on test day?
Buying tuition hours does not by itself include a DVSA test fee, test-booking help or test-day car use. Check the package and your booking agreement for anything specifically included. Before relying on your instructor’s car, confirm availability and arrangements with them. Your instructor may refuse car use if you are not driving safely enough or the car cannot lawfully be used.
When should I book my practical test?
For most first-time car learners, you need to pass the theory test before booking a practical test. Discuss readiness and instructor/car availability before choosing an appointment. You should be able to drive safely and independently, not just have completed a number of hours. DVSA controls test appointments; NextPass cannot guarantee a date or a pass. See the official practical-test guidance.
Can I book a lesson just to use an instructor’s car for my test?
Please speak to NextPass before booking for a specific test appointment. The instructor needs to check your driving standard and confirm both their availability and the car arrangements. Buying a lesson or package does not guarantee test-day car use.
Do I need to pass my theory test before starting driving lessons?
No. You can start practical lessons before passing your theory test, provided you meet the licence and other legal requirements. Learning theory alongside practical skills can help the rules make sense. Most first-time car learners must pass theory before booking the practical test.
Theory training
Is theory training a live lesson or an app?
It is live, one-to-one support by video call with a trainer, rather than a group class or an app subscription. You can ask questions and work through the topics you find difficult, including road rules and hazard perception.
Do I need to live in Manchester or take practical lessons with NextPass?
No. Online theory training is available to learners across the UK and can be arranged separately from practical lessons. Call or WhatsApp NextPass to check a suitable time.
What does theory training cost?
A one-hour session is £40. The two-hour package is £70, saving £10 compared with two one-hour sessions. Both provide live, one-to-one video-call training. Contact NextPass to agree availability and payment arrangements before booking.
How do I book and pay for theory training?
Use a package enquiry link on this page, or call NextPass. We will agree availability, payment arrangements and how to join the video call. Theory training is not purchased through the practical driving-lesson checkout.
What do I need for the video session?
A phone, tablet or computer with a stable internet connection and a quiet place to concentrate. Tell us which topics or question types you want help with. NextPass will confirm the joining details when arranging your session.
Does theory training include my DVSA theory test booking or fee?
The advertised service is tuition, not a DVSA test appointment. Book the actual test separately through the official theory-test service. Completing training does not automatically book a test.
Changes, cancellations & refunds
What is your cancellation policy?
Contact NextPass or your instructor as early as possible if you need to move or cancel a lesson. A replacement time must be agreed. Under our terms, a missed lesson or a late cancellation that the instructor cannot reasonably fill is charged at the full agreed lesson price. This is separate from cancelling a package or using a statutory cancellation right. Read section 2 of our terms for the full policy.
Is the deposit refundable?
Under our deposit promise, your deposit is refunded if you cancel before the first agreed lesson or course starts and give at least 48 hours’ notice. If no start time was agreed, the notice period does not apply to an unconfirmed time. This promise is separate from the 14-day cancellation right for online and phone bookings and does not limit your statutory rights. See our cancellation and refund terms.
How does the 14-day cancellation period work?
For online and phone bookings, it runs for 14 days from the day after the booking contract is agreed. Processing the booking or starting a lesson does not, by itself, end this right. If you ask for lessons to start early, charges for tuition already delivered depend on the request and acknowledgements described in our terms. The right can end early after full delivery only if the required conditions are met. Read section 2.6 for the details, including when the period may be extended.
Can I get a refund for unused lessons after a package has started?
For a NextPass online or phone booking, our package policy allows a refund request for unused lessons up to one month from the first lesson. Lessons already taken are deducted at the agreed package price. After that month, unused lessons are not refundable under this policy, but remain available to complete at agreed times. This does not limit statutory cancellation or other consumer rights. See section 2 for the full terms.
What if I arrange lessons privately with an instructor?
A separate lesson or package arranged and paid for privately with an instructor follows the terms agreed with that instructor. NextPass’s package-refund policy does not cover that separate arrangement. If you booked through NextPass, paying the package balance to your instructor as part of that booking does not turn it into a private arrangement or remove NextPass’s responsibilities.
What happens if NextPass cannot provide my booking?
If NextPass or your instructor cancels a lesson, you will not be charged a customer-cancellation fee. We will discuss alternatives with you. You do not have to accept a different gearbox or a significantly different arrangement. If NextPass cannot provide the booking or its remaining lessons, our terms provide for a refund of money we hold for services not provided. Contact NextPass about your booking; separate instructor agreements are dealt with under the terms you agreed with them.
